From 28 May to 01 June, the JCBRN Defence Centre of Excellence organized the 2018 iteration of the CBRN Units Evaluators Course with 8 students from CZE, ROU and SVN.

The aim of the course was to prepare the course attendees to achieve common standards in CBRN certification for the evaluation of CBRN Defence units assigned to the NATO Response Force Combined Joint Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defence Task Force (NRF CJ CBRND TF).

The Joint Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Defence Capability Development Group’s (JCBRND-CDG) Spring Meeting was held in the Hellenic Armed Forces Officers' Club - Athens, Greece from 23 April to 26 April 2018.

Approximately 71 participants from twenty NATO Nations, five Partners for Peace (PfP), and representatives from various NATO bodies and organizations (IMS, IS/ESC(CT), IS/PASP(ACDC), IS/OPS(CPS), ACO, SACT, SACT SEE, JFCBS, LANDCOM, JCBRN Defence COE, (MCMedSB) CBRN MED WG, NSO and NSPA)¹ attended a four days long meeting to discuss the JCBRND-CDG assessments on capability developments and related standardisation activities.

At the 2018 summer evaluation Colonel Vratislav Osvald, Director JCBRND COE, declared as one of the future key challenges NATO’s request to enhance co-operation with academia. However, this mission does not pose a real challenge to the Centre, because it had already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Rome “Tor Vergata" on 10 November 2011 to establish cooperation between both entities. Within this context it went without saying that the COE supported “Tor Vergata” to conducting a CBRN Workshop at the ABU DHABI Police General Headquarters (GHQ) on 27 and 28 June 2018.

The Royal Military Collage (RMC) of Canada in Kingston hosted the 30th Doctrine and Terminology Panel (DTP) meeting from 04 JUN – 08 JUN 2018. DTP is one out of seven NATO Joint CBRN Defence Capability Development Group’s panels (JCBRND-CDG).

Fourteen nations (AUS, BEL CAN, CZE, DEU, DNK, FRA, GBR, ITA, NLD, NOR, POL, TUR, USA) were represented, as well as ACO, JFC Brunssum, ACT Staff Element Europe and JCBRND COE.

The recently established Central European CBRN-E 1 Training Centre (CE CBRN-E TC) in Budapest (HUN) would like to cooperate with the Joint CBRN Defence Centre of Excellence (JCBRND COE) especially in the field of training. The TC forwarded an official letter to us in order to identify areas of potential cooperation between our organizations. Colonel Vratislav OSVALD, Director JCBRND COE, confirmed that our COE is highly interested in the close cooperation with the Training Center and invited the representatives to Vyškov in order to get to know each other and our capabilities.
