The Republic of Austria joined the Centre

Last week an agreement was signed with all Sponsoring Nations at the NATO Allied Command Transformation (Norfolk, USA). Austria is the first PfP (Partnership for Peace) nation to join the Joint CBRN Defence Centre of Excellence.

Recognizing their contributions in the field of CBRN Defense and grateful for their generous offer to support the JCBRN Defence COE mission, the Federal Minister of Defence and Sports of the Republic of Austria is accepted as a Contributing Partner (CP) with all associated rights a privileges. In their first contributing act, the Republic of Austria will assign an officer from the Austrian Armed Forces to serve in the Transformation Support Department (hereinafter referred to as the “AUT SO”).

“AUT CBRN Defence offer unique capabilities and broad experience in civil military cooperation. I am delighted that AUT is a member of our CBRN Defence club. Their contributions will undoubtedly strengthen our capabilities and sharpen our skills.” -Colonel Jiří Gajdoš, Director, JCBRN COE.

The JCBRN Defence CoE Enhancement Project

The JCBRN Defence CoE Enhancement Project initially started as an excellent idea to ensure more adequate working conditions for CoE members as in NATO. The most important reason for the Enhancement project is to create an external image and environment worthy of and appropriate to the status, stature and high achievements to which this center and its sponsoring nations aspire.

The Joint CBRN Defence Centre of Excellence took part in the Maritime Expeditionary Operations Conference in Oeiras, Portugal

Around 100 high ranking participants, including the Chairman of the Military Committee, General (CZE-A) Petr Pavel, the Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, Admiral (DEU-N) Manfred Nielsson, and the Commander Joint Force Command Naples, Admiral (USA-N) Michelle Howard, attended the Maritime Expeditionary Operations Conference on 19^th and 20^th July 2016 in Oeiras in Portugal.

The two days of the conference provided a deep insight into the character of Maritime Expeditionary Operations, in particular in how this NATO ability to project maritime forces at up to strategic distance, delivering decisive joint effect from the sea on land, at sea, in the air, space and cyberspace, will follow NATO’s adaptation to the ever evolving strategic threats.

For the Joint CBRN Defence Centre of Excellence representative, it was important that Maritime Expeditionary Operations are not purely naval operations, but include the application of air and ground forces and effects, too. Thus, the topic of Defence against Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Weapons plays an important role in this context.
