The JCBRN Defence COE recently conducted a mobile training course on CBRN Awareness for First Responders in Kuwait City, from October 27 to 31, 2024.
This course, part of NATO’s Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI), included 18 participants from Kuwait and neighboring countries and was held at the NATO-Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) Regional Centre in Kuwait City.
The course was organized in collaboration with NATO’s IS-Political Affairs and Security Division, Partnership and Global Affairs Directorate.
All participants gained insights into organizational procedures, crisis management, and consequence management, which are essential for responding effectively to Chemical, Biological, and Radiological (CBRN) incidents. The training emphasized the importance of interoperability among various first responder agencies, enhancing their collaborative efforts during and after CBRN emergencies.
Apart from that, the course emphasized the importance of interagency cooperation, which is crucial for effectively managing Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) incidents. Such incidents demand a coordinated response from diverse stakeholders, including emergency services, public health agencies, law enforcement, and military units. By fostering collaboration among these groups, the training aimed to enhance overall CBRN preparedness and ensure a more effective response to potential CBRN threats.
Through a combination of lectures and syndicate exercises, attendees practiced concepts and various methods for developing effective response strategies and fostering successful cooperation during and after CBRN incidents.

This training underscored NATO's ongoing commitment to enhancing CBRN defense capabilities and fostering shared understanding through capacity building among its partners.
The course successfully concluded on Thursday, October 31, with an official ceremony. The NATO-ICI Regional Centre Director, supported by the course director LTC Petr Škopec, and his excellent team, handed over certificates to all participants.
